Case study: CMS Office | Ceiling imitating sun rays piercing through clouds
Scope: Personalized finishes
The design of the new office of law firm CMS Cameron McKenna, located in Varso Tower – the tallest building in the European Union – required a unique concept that would reflect the spectacular height of the office. TRZOP ARCHITEKCI, responsible for the project, aimed to create an atmosphere of “office in the clouds”, where even the interiors would allow to feel the location’s exceptionality. The ADVERTIS team was tasked with developing and constructing a unique perforated ceiling that would resemble the sun’s rays piercing through the clouds – as the main decorative element of the foyer and conference rooms, i.e. places for meetings with guests.
Client Context
CMS Cameron McKenna is a renowned law firm for which the new headquarters in Varso Tower represented an investment aimed not only at a prestigious location, but also at creating a unique and inspiring work environment. The cloud office concept developed by TRZOP ARCHITEKCI was based on a symbolic representation of the “base of the clouds” – a motif that ADVERTIS was to replicate in the office space through lighting that imitated diffused sunlight.
Process
The implementation required the creation of a perforated ceiling, where visual effect and lighting functionality were key. The space allocated for the installation had an unusual, rounded shape and space constraints due to existing technical installations. The ADVERTIS team had to design a ceiling with precise dimensions, covering an area of nearly 60 sq m, that would fit perfectly, down to the millimeters.
We developed a dedicated perforation pattern with holes of different diameters, which made it possible to achieve an LED light scattering effect that most resembles sunlight. The body of the ceiling was made of aluminum, and the diffuser was made of flame-retardant material, which guarantees an even and subtle dispersion of light. Due to the exposure of the ceiling in areas frequented by visitors, minimizing the number of panels was also an important aspect, reducing the visibility of joints and enhancing the “cloud-like” effect of the surface.
Effects
The concept realized by ADVERTIS captures the effect of sunlight piercing through the clouds, creating an inspiring, unique atmosphere in the foyer and conference rooms. The lighting element not only provides adequate luminous comfort, but also serves as a central decorative element, emphasizing the prestige of the place and creating a “wow effect” for visitors.
The realization has won high praise from both the Client and the architects, and has been repeatedly awarded in industry competitions such as the European Property Awards and the Prime Property Prize, highlighting the unique character of the space and the quality of workmanship.
