Case study: LookUp Event Venue | Copper panels with the Warsaw skyline in the background

Scope: Personalized finishes

LookUp is an exclusive conference and event space occupying the top two floors of the Skyliner skyscraper in Warsaw. Its distinguishing feature is both the impressive view of the city skyline and the outstanding interior design. The ADVERTIS team was tasked with creating personalized wall coverings that reflect the natural charm of aged copper, while meeting all technical requirements, such as lightness, fire safety and improved interior acoustics. They have become a key design element that spectacularly define the character of the place.

Client Context

The design of the LookUp space is the work of renowned architectural studio MIXD, whose work has won international recognition. LookUp won the prestigious Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in the Europe – Surface Interiors 2024 category.

The LookUp venue is a representative point of Skyliner, designed to host a variety of events – from conferences to exclusive receptions. With a panoramic view of the city and a unique design, it is a venue often recognized in rankings of Warsaw’s most popular locations.

Skyliner is an office building where ADVERTIS had the opportunity to realize other important elements as well – from the monumental logo on the wall in the lobby, which has become the standout feature of the space, to a coherent wayfinding system extending throughout the entire building, from the parking lot to the top floors.

Process

The basis of the design was a copper-colored material that was intended to cover almost every wall on two levels of the space. The inspiration came from natural copper and its aging process, which meant that the color of the panels had to be uneven, mimicking patina. An additional challenge was to cover walls reaching up to 14 meters high while keeping the structure light and safe.

Since copper sheet proved to be too heavy and prone to damage, it was crucial to develop an alternative solution that would reflect its appearance while meeting the technical requirements. After a series of trials and tests, a dedicated composite sheet with a non-combustible core was selected and subjected to a special five-step painting process. Thanks to the precise application of layers of varnish, it was possible to achieve an effect that deceptively resembles the natural material.

In addition, some panels were perforated according to the project, which not only enhanced their aesthetic qualities, but also improved the acoustic parameters of the space.

Effects

As a result of the advanced process of technology and attention to detail, the LookUp space has gained walls that attract the attention of every visitor. The patinated copper imitation panels blend harmoniously with the monumental character of the Skyliner, creating a unique, timeless design.

The visual effect is combined with functionality – the panels not only meet acoustic requirements, but also ensure safety thanks to the use of materials with non-combustible properties.

The LookUp project is further proof that the creative vision of architects, supported by the right technology, can result in a unique result that stands out from other projects.
